We discovered that the ribosome quality control (RQC) factor 'Pelota' plays a key role in suppressing aging and extending lifespan. This study used the nematode C. elegans to confirm that Pelota is essential for longevity through ribosome-based quality control. Furthermore, we found that Pelota maintains cellular homeostasis and delays aging by inhibiting the mTOR signaling pathway and inducing autophagy. This functional importance is also conserved in mice and humans, with results suggesting that Pelota can prevent aging-related diseases such as muscle aging and Alzheimer's disease.
