As reported in 2019 in hiPSC-derived neurons from Alzheimer’s disease models (Meyer et al., 2019; PMID: 30699343), early neuronal differentiation phenotypes have since been recapitulated in both human neurons and cerebral organoid systems. Building on these observations, our current work finally suggests the upstream drivers and biological significance of this premature neuronal maturation. While the precise molecular mechanisms and full pathological implications remain to be defined, we anticipate that our study will provide valuable insights into the accelerated exit from the neural progenitor state and the heightened vulnerability of neural cells in Alzheimer’s disease.
